About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher / Scientific Collaborator opportunity at the University of Zurich Healthy Longevity Center for a Social Production Satellite Account for Switzerland. The role is jointly connected to the UZH Psychology Department, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) National Accounts Division in Neuchâtel, and a research team at the University of Sydney.
The project develops a pilot satellite account that values unpaid socially productive activity beyond GDP, including care work, volunteering, civic participation, mentoring, ecological stewardship, and contributions to open knowledge. The post combines research and implementation: aligning the method with ESA 2010 and the SNA, mapping categories to Swiss SAKE data, conducting gap analysis, producing first estimates, and building a reproducible statistical product for official statistics.
This is a strong fit for candidates in economics, statistics, data science, or related quantitative social sciences with experience in national accounts, satellite accounting, survey and time-use microdata, time-series and index methods, and constant-price adjustment. The post also values a translational research orientation and the ability to work across academia, official statistics, and policy audiences.
Requirements: doctorate in economics, applied statistics, or a quantitative social science/data science; familiarity with national accounts concepts; strong data handling and methodological skills; working proficiency in German or French plus English. Desirable experience includes time-use surveys, unpaid-work modules, statistical office work, peer-reviewed publication, and technical reporting.
Funding and terms: employment is on University of Zurich terms with salary according to UZH and Canton of Zurich guidelines for postdoctoral researchers. The position is temporary with a three-year horizon and is based in Switzerland, with work split between Zurich and the FSO in Neuchâtel.
Application deadline: 21 August 2026. Apply with one PDF in English including a CV, publication list, motivation letter, PhD transcript, and contact details for two referees.
