About this position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher to join the “Physiological and Pathological Mechanisms of Cortical Development” team led by Dr. Juliette Godin at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) in Strasbourg, France. The project is supervised directly by Dr. Efil Bayam and is part of the ANR-funded SpeaDAT project, which investigates how species-specific dysfunction of the ADAT tRNA deaminase complex affects brain development.

The successful candidate will study ADAT function in progenitor cells and neurons, focusing on how ADAT dysfunction alters tRNAs and broader translational programs. The research uses human iPSC- and mouse ESC-derived models, including 2D cortical neural stem cells and neurons as well as 3D cortical organoids carrying ADAT2 and ADAT3 pathogenic variants.

Key tasks include generating and characterizing iPSC-derived neural models, assessing cellular phenotypes such as proliferation, cell cycle dynamics, progenitor identity, neuronal maturation, and synaptic integration, and applying methods such as immunofluorescence, EdU/pulse-chase labeling, MEA, and calcium imaging. The project also includes analysis and interpretation of human mim-tRNA-seq and ribosome profiling data in collaboration with a bioinformatician.

This is a 30-month, full-time postdoctoral position, well suited to a recently graduated PhD with experience in human iPSC culture and/or 2D/3D neural differentiation protocols. The candidate will present results at team and consortium meetings and at national/international conferences, contribute to manuscript writing and project reporting, and help supervise students.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in a relevant life-science field, strong hands-on experience in cell and molecular biology, and good English communication skills. Interest in neurodevelopment and translational control is particularly valued.

What's required

PhD or equivalent in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience or a related field, recently obtained. Experience with human iPSC culture and/or 2D/3D neural differentiation protocols is required. Proficiency in standard molecular and cell biology techniques including immunofluorescence, western blot, qPCR, and imaging is required. Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing approaches such as RNA-seq and ribosome profiling is a plus. Candidates should have an interest in neurodevelopment, neurodevelopmental disorders, and translational control; be a fast learner with critical thinking, a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, good interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills in English, strong organizational skills, personal motivation, and creativity.
