About this position

Penn State University Park is advertising a Postdoctoral Scholar in Computational Optoelectronics and Applied Mathematics in the College of Engineering, Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics.

The project sits at the intersection of applied mathematics, numerical simulation, computational optoelectronics, semiconductor modeling, and scientific computing. The postdoc will work in the Lakhtakia research team under Prof. Akhlesh Lakhtakia, in collaboration with Prof. Anna Mazzucato (Mathematics at Penn State), Prof. Peter B. Monk (Mathematics at University of Delaware), and a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Delaware.

Research tasks include developing and analyzing two- and three-dimensional optical and electronic models for integrated energy microgenerators (IEMGs) containing compound semiconductors; implementing high-order numerical methods for semiconductor drift-diffusion and Maxwell systems; modeling grain boundaries, defects, and interfaces; and optimizing bandgap profiles, layer thicknesses, device geometry, and tandem IEMG configurations.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment in applied mathematics, computational mathematics, electrical engineering, engineering science, physics, computational science, or a closely related field. Preferred experience includes numerical analysis, PDEs, finite-element or discontinuous-Galerkin methods, computational modeling, semiconductor models, optoelectronics, photovoltaics, optimization, machine learning, Python, version control, and high-performance computing.

This is a full-time postdoctoral position. The posting notes that continuation beyond the term depends on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. Penn State also offers a competitive benefits package for full-time employees.

To apply, current Penn State employees and current Penn State students must use the internal Workday process. External applicants should click Apply on the job page and complete the external application process.
