About this position

Penn State College of Medicine is advertising a Postdoctoral Scholar in Dermatology in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Kowalczyk at the Department of Dermatology. The position is based on campus in Hershey, Pennsylvania, United States, and focuses on the mechanisms of organelle association with adhesive cell-cell junctions such as desmosomes and adherens junctions.

The successful candidate will work on projects in cell biology, molecular biology, organelle biology, and cell adhesion, using in vitro approaches. The lab specifically seeks someone with demonstrated experience in mammalian cell culture, basic cell/molecular biology techniques, and high-resolution live cell fluorescence microscopy. Experience in coding for microscopy analysis and strong background in organelle and adhesion biology are preferred.

Responsibilities include independently driving projects, learning new techniques as needed, presenting at lab meetings and conferences, drafting manuscripts, contributing to the lab environment, training students and lab personnel, and following research safety and compliance policies.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline by the appointment start date. This is a full-time term position; continuation beyond the term depends on university need, performance, and/or funding availability.
