About this position
EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar in Indoor Air Quality within the School of Architecture, Civil, and Environmental Engineering. The position is hosted by the Human-Oriented Built Environment Lab (HOBEL), led by Prof. Dusan Licina, and is based primarily at EPFL’s Fribourg campus in Fribourg, Switzerland, with access to EPFL facilities in Fribourg and Lausanne.
The research sits at the intersection of indoor air quality, aerosol science, ultrafine particles (UFPs), exposure science, and the built environment. Possible directions include sources and emissions of indoor pollutants, pollutant concentrations and transformations, human inhalation exposure, experimental characterization of indoor aerosols, source-resolved measurements, and modeling of emissions, transport, transformation, and exposure. Projects may combine controlled laboratory experiments, measurements in real-world buildings, data analysis, and computational modeling.
Applicants should have a PhD degree, or be nearing completion, in environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical, or architectural engineering, aerosol science, atmospheric science, exposure science, or a closely related field. The post also seeks strong experimental and/or computational ability, quantitative data analysis skills, and proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB. A strong publication record and excellent English communication skills are expected.
The appointment offers the chance to develop and lead research projects, publish in leading journals, present at international conferences, collaborate with academic and industrial partners, and build an independent research profile in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment. The contract is annual, with a preferred multi-year appointment of at least 2 years. Salary and benefits follow EPFL regulations.
Application deadline: 15 October 2026. Start date: flexible, with preference for an early appointment. Apply via the EPFL careers portal using the job link provided.
