About this position

Stanford University is advertising a postdoctoral scholar position in Linguistics with faculty mentor Meg Cychosz. The project focuses on infant and child speech/language development, broadly construed, with opportunities to pursue independent ideas and build on ongoing work in a supportive, collaborative lab environment.

The research is interdisciplinary and may involve experimental and computational approaches to understand neural and environmental predictors of language development. Current projects include cross-cultural work, children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing, and data collection in preschools and homes using methods such as child-centered wearables, deep learning, fNIRS, and eyetracking.

The postdoc will be primarily mentored by Meg Cychosz, with potential collaborations across Stanford in psychology, computer science, neuroscience, and the Stanford Graduate School of Education, including Monica Ellwood-Lowe, Dan Jurafsky, and Mike Frank.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Education, Speech & Hearing Sciences, or a related field; substantial experience in speech/audio processing, deep learning, NLP, eye tracking, or related methods; strong interest in children's language learning and naturalistic child-centered data; and strong collaborative skills.

Funding: 2-year appointment with opportunity for renewal. The expected base pay is the Stanford University required minimum for postdoctoral scholars; FY27 minimum is $79,056.

Application deadline: Friday, December 4, 2026 at 5pm Pacific Time. Apply via the Google Form and submit a cover letter, CV, two research papers, and two recommendation contacts.
