About this position

The Ohio State University is advertising a funded postdoctoral position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS), located on the Columbus Campus in the United States.

The project focuses on atomic-scale structure and defects in materials and interfaces relevant to superconducting and semiconducting qubits. The successful candidate will use advanced electron microscopy and spectroscopy methods, including TEM, 4D-STEM, electron ptychography, EELS, and SEM/EBSD, to study structure, strain, chemistry, thin films, and heterostructures. The role also includes developing advanced data analysis workflows for large microscopy datasets and correlating structural/chemical features with superconducting and electronic properties.

Eligibility: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Applied Physics, or a closely related equivalent field. A strong background in TEM/STEM characterization is required. Experience with EELS, diffraction contrast, 4D-STEM/ptychography, and data analysis tools is preferred, along with strong collaborative communication skills.

Funding and environment: This is a full-time, term (fixed-term) postdoctoral appointment with access to state-of-the-art electron microscopy facilities and interdisciplinary collaborations.

How to apply: Interested candidates should send a CV and a brief description of their expertise and research interests to Salva Salmani-Rezaie at [email protected]. The posting is on the Ohio State Workday careers site.
