About this position

Postdoctoral Scholar opportunity in Neuroscience/Pharmacology at the University of Kentucky

The Jaramillo Lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate negative affective disturbances in abstinence and the neurobiology of alcohol use. The project is supported by NIH-NIAAA funding (AA032581) and focuses on neurocircuits and behavioral mechanisms dysregulated in animal models of alcohol use.

Research topics include the parabrachial extended amygdala circuit, with emphasis on neuropeptides such as PACAP and CRF, stress-related mechanisms, and behavioral neuroscience. Methods mentioned include in vivo fiber photometry, ex vivo slice physiology, chemogenetics, immunofluorescence, and intracranial pharmacological infusions.

Applicants must hold a PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology, or an equivalent field. Competitive candidates will have experience with rodent behavioral models and/or the techniques above, plus a record of research productivity. The role includes manuscript preparation, data analysis and interpretation, mentoring trainees, grant development, conference presentations, and developing independent research questions.

The position is full-time, temporary, and the salary is commensurate with experience. The start date is flexible, and applications are reviewed immediately until the position is filled.
