About this position
The AgSensing Lab in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate focused on precision agriculture, machine learning, remote sensing, and sensor systems.
The position centers on developing and applying advanced data analytics to quantify crop phenotypic and agronomic traits in crops such as corn and soybean. The successful candidate will work with multi-source spatial and temporal datasets, including UAS imagery, satellite imagery, ground-based sensors, and other geospatial data. Research also includes the design, testing, and deployment of custom ground-based sensing platforms for real-time or near-real-time agricultural decision-making.
Responsibilities include agricultural data analytics, machine learning model development, remote sensing analysis, field experiments, data collection, project implementation, scientific publications, presentations, proposal development, mentoring students, and interdisciplinary collaboration with agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering, agronomy, computer science, and soil science researchers.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field; substantial relevant research experience; experience with spatial/temporal/remotely sensed datasets; programming in Python or R; and strong scientific communication skills. Preferred experience includes GIS, crop phenotyping, precision agriculture, sensor integration, field research, and grant writing.

What's required
Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline. At least 5 years of relevant research experience in agricultural data analytics, remote sensing, machine learning, spatial data analysis, sensor systems, or related areas; Ph.D. research experience may count toward this requirement. Experience with spatial, temporal, or remotely sensed datasets, demonstrated machine learning experience, proficiency in Python, R, or comparable tools, scientific writing and peer-reviewed publication experience, strong analytical/organizational/problem-solving/project-management skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively are required. Preferred experience includes UAS imagery, satellite remote sensing, GIS, agricultural production systems in the United States, crop phenotyping, precision agriculture, sensor integration, real-time/edge processing, field experiments, ground-truth data collection, mentoring, and grant proposal development.
