About this position

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a Post Doctoral Scholar in Veterinary Preventive Medicine to join an interdisciplinary research team studying the interspecies transmission, evolutionary dynamics, and surveillance of infectious diseases, including influenza and coronaviruses.

The scholar will lead bioinformatics and statistical analyses of biological and genomic data, contribute to biological sample collection and field surveillance, maintain physical and electronic datasets, and help prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts, grant proposals, and research compliance protocols (IACUC, IBC, IRB). The role also includes communicating findings at regional and national conferences and collaborating with scientists, laboratory staff, and external partners.

Required background includes a PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Epidemiology, Evolutionary Biology, or a related field, plus experience with molecular lab methods, bioinformatic pipelines, grant writing, and research ethics/compliance. Desired experience includes NGS, microbiome analysis, within-host genetic diversity, evolutionary theory, population genetics, disease ecology, field sampling, survey design, participatory epidemiology, and mentoring/teaching.

The position is based at Sisson Hall at The Ohio State University in the United States. It is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment with work that may involve BSL-3/BSL-3Ag facilities, PPE use, lifting up to 40 lbs, and work with large animals or wildlife.
