About this position

The Laboratory of Mathematical Modeling of Biological Systems (LAMBS) at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (ICB-USP), Brazil, is offering a 24-month, FAPESP-funded postdoctoral position in malaria modeling.

The project investigates malaria transmission dynamics across the Amazon Basin, with a focus on Plasmodium vivax and individual variation in malaria risk. The successful candidate will work on mathematical models based on ordinary differential equations and will extend them by integrating evidence from collaborators in molecular biology, genetics, and entomology. The aim is to better represent heterogeneity in infection risk, repeated exposure, and the mechanisms that shape malaria susceptibility, ultimately supporting the design and evaluation of targeted control strategies.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral role at the University of São Paulo in São Paulo, Brazil. Funding is provided through a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship with a monthly stipend of R$ 12,570.00, and additional benefit information is available through the FAPESP postdoctoral fellowship page.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Quantitative Biology, or Physics. The posting asks for experience in numerical analysis, dynamical systems, stochastic processes and/or biostatistics, plus proficiency in a scripting or data-analysis language such as Python or R. The position also expects peer-reviewed publications and strong communication skills for explaining quantitative research to non-expert audiences. Excellent English is required.

The application deadline is 10 December 2026 at 18:00 America/Sao_Paulo time. To apply, candidates should send a cover letter and CV to the listed email contacts.
