About this position
The University of Washington’s newly formed Paros Geohazards Center in the School of Oceanography is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar – Scientific Program Manager. The role combines research, scientific coordination, and center-building activities in a highly interdisciplinary environment focused on geohazards, sensing technologies, signal analysis, and hazard monitoring/mitigation.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Center Director and Paros Chairs/Investigators to help shape the Center’s early scientific direction, coordinate flagship initiatives, support new research proposals, manage budgets and project plans, and build partnerships with faculty, scientists, students, communities, and government agencies. Research themes include real-time seafloor sensing for the Cascadia Subduction Zone, borehole observatories, mountain and volcanic geohazards, cryospheric sensing, Arctic sea ice, and infrasound sensing.
This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment with an initial term of 12 months, renewable depending on funding, eligibility, and performance for up to 3 years. The salary is $6,681 per month. The position starts December 1, 2026, and applications received by September 25, 2026 receive equal consideration; review begins immediately and continues until filled.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an applicable field such as oceanography, Earth sciences, or atmospheric science. Strong independent research ability, excellent organization and communication skills, and experience with research proposals, project management, workshops, partnerships, sensing technologies, geohazards, data analysis, or scientific computing are desirable.
