About this position
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is advertising a Postdoctoral Trainee position in the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, within the NRSA Primary Care Research Fellowship program.
This fellowship is designed for clinicians and researchers pursuing academic primary care research careers, with training in health services research, public health, and related research methods. The curriculum includes coursework leading to an MPH or PhD degree in UNC’s School of Public Health, extensive hands-on research involvement, a weekly fellows’ seminar, and professional communication/research-in-progress review activities organized through NC TraCS.
Eligible applicants include MD or DO graduates with residency completed in General Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Medicine-Pediatrics, or Family Medicine, or applicants with a PhD in health services research or a similar field. MD/DO applicants must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in North Carolina.
The fellowship is principally funded by an NIH/HRSA National Research Service Award grant. Stipends range from $62,232 to $75,564 (2025 salary amounts), with support for travel to meetings, project expenses, health insurance, and tuition & fees. Fellows may also apply for NIH Loan Repayment support.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and competitive candidates are interviewed continuously until positions are filled. The proposed start date is July 1, 2026, though a later start may be negotiated.
