About this position
National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) is recruiting for R26-16 Optical Nanomaterials / Research Position in the Nanoarchitectonics Materials Research Center, Nanoparticle Group in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan.
The position focuses on nanotechnology and materials, especially inorganic materials chemistry, nanostructure chemistry, nanomaterials science, and nanoparticles. The research theme is to accelerate the synthesis of nanoparticles with superior optical properties by combining autonomous, automated synthesis with data and AI, including controlled hot injection and related advanced nanocrystal growth technologies. The work also includes creating advanced optical materials such as optoelectronic devices using synthesized particles as active layers.
This is a full-time, no fixed-term research position. The annual income is 6 million to 10 million yen, with an annual salary system and performance-based pay. Allowances such as commuting, housing, and dependent allowances may apply. NIMS also notes that a research environment improvement support system of up to 10 million yen may be available depending on the research plan at appointment.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD (or expected completion by the appointment date), strong English communication and writing ability, ability to work collaboratively, outstanding achievements in inorganic phosphor synthesis and device creation based on solution chemistry, and experience with AI-driven wet synthesis, Python, and academic publishing.
The work location is Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. The planned start date is April 1, 2027 (negotiable). Applications must arrive between 2026-09-17 and 2026-10-21.
