About this position

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is recruiting a Program Associate, Higher Education for its Higher Education program in New York City.

This is a full-time, term-limited staff position focused on higher education, STEM education, graduate education, and economics. The program’s mission is to expand fair access and opportunity in STEM higher education so that all talent is included and can thrive. The Associate will support grantmaking, external engagement, strategy development, grant review, and program communications.

Who it is for: The role is especially suited to a recent PhD graduate or early-career candidate with a PhD (or equivalent experience) in higher education or a related field. Strong familiarity with higher education research, access and opportunity in STEM, and the barriers facing undergraduate and graduate students is important. Experience or interest in Minority Serving Institutions, two-year colleges, access-focused institutions, graduate education reform, STEM pedagogy, emergent technologies, or Indigenous science and methodologies is desirable.

What the role involves: Meeting with grantees, reviewing proposals, managing multiple projects, supporting grant workflows, drafting internal documents, and helping with research and landscape scans. The position also includes work on program communications, newsletters, events, meetings, and campus site visits. Moderate travel is expected.

Funding and terms: This is a paid, full-time position with a salary range of $95,000–$105,000 and a generous benefits package. It is a three-year role with the possibility of a two-year extension. No visa sponsorship is provided.

How to apply: Send a cover letter and CV/resume to [email protected] with the subject line “LAST NAME – Program Associate, Higher Education.” Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
