Project Assistant - Ph.D. Candidate (m/f/d) at the University of Graz
This doctoral research position is hosted by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Graz in Austria. The project is part of the FWF-funded research initiative “METABOLIC-SWITCH for ferroptosis suppression”, which explores novel strategies to inhibit ferroptosis in degenerative diseases.
The successful candidate will work on elucidating molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis, identifying novel therapeutic targets, and generating and analyzing multiomics datasets. The research is interdisciplinary and combines bioanalytical, cell biological, and molecular pharmacological approaches. The role also includes writing scientific publications, preparing a project-related dissertation in the field of pharmacognosy, supervising students in research activities, participating in conferences/workshops/training events, supporting science communication, and assisting with organizational and administrative tasks.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a completed diploma or master's degree in pharmacy, biochemistry, molecular medicine, biology, or a related subject. Useful background knowledge includes analytics, cell biology, signal transduction, and molecular pharmacology, ideally with a focus on redox biology. Practical experience with biochemical and cell biology methods such as cell culture, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, qPCR, and FACS is an advantage, as is experience with HPLC and LC-MS/MS. Very good written and spoken English skills are required, together with strong IT skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Funding and contract: the position is a temporary full-time doctoral appointment for 4 years. The annual gross salary is at least €52,865.40 for full-time employment, with possible overpayment depending on qualification and experience. The post is expected to start on 2026-10-01.
