About this position

The University of Tokyo Graduate School of Engineering is recruiting a Project Researcher for the JST ERATO "Nishibayashi Green Ammonia Synthesis Project" at Nishibayashi Laboratory, Department of Applied Chemistry.

This project focuses on green ammonia synthesis using molecular catalysts, renewable energy-derived electrical and light energy, and water to convert nitrogen into ammonia under room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The research integrates coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalytic chemistry, electrochemistry, photochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, materials chemistry, surface science, operando measurement, theoretical calculations, and data science.

Possible topics include design and synthesis of highly active molecular catalysts, nitrogen fixation reactions, electrochemical ammonia synthesis, photochemical and photoelectrochemical ammonia synthesis, immobilization of catalysts onto electrodes and materials, design of electrode interfaces and catalytic reaction fields, and development of electrolytic cells and reaction systems.

The position is open to candidates with a doctoral degree or those expected to obtain one by the time of appointment. Prior experience in ammonia synthesis or nitrogen fixation is not required; the lab welcomes researchers from related or even different fields who are motivated to contribute their expertise.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position with an annual salary of 4 million to 12 million yen, plus social insurance and benefits according to University of Tokyo regulations. The work location is Hongo Campus, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. Interviews may be conducted online for applicants living overseas or far away.
