About this position

Queen Mary University of London’s School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is recruiting a Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Associate for work in distributed systems, Edge AI, decentralized learning, algorithmic optimisation, and decentralized cybersecurity.

The role supports advanced research and system development in areas such as intrusion detection and migration systems, distributed AI/ML systems, computer networks, and software engineering. The successful candidate will conduct independent systems-level research, build robust software prototypes, run performance evaluations, and publish findings in high-impact academic venues.

This is a full-time fixed-term position based in London, Hybrid, with a salary of £38,419 to £46,618 and an end date of 31 March 2027 (extension possible).

Applicants should have an undergraduate and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and have recently completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in Computer Science or a cognate field. Strong research and programming skills are expected, along with expertise in distributed AI/ML systems and computer networks. Publications in leading peer-reviewed conferences and/or journals are required, and experience with open-source projects is considered an advantage.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
