About this position

Research Associate in Electrochemical Biosensors at Lancaster University (School of Engineering), based in Bailrigg, Lancaster, UK.

This is a postdoctoral research opportunity in electrochemical biosensors, point-of-care diagnostics, C-peptide assessment, type 1 diabetes, redox nanocomposite materials, nanomaterials, and immunosensor characterisation. The successful candidate will join the Şahin Research Group and work with Dr Samet Şahin on developing a blood test for C-peptide that can be performed at the time and place of patient care.

The role includes design and synthesis of redox nanocomposite materials, characterisation, antibody immobilisation, electrochemical testing, and immunosensor characterisation. The project is funded by Breakthrough T1D (USA) via a Strategic Research Agreement grant and is a full-time post funded until 1 December 2027. Salary is £33,002 to £37,694.

Applicants should have a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline, and a PhD or near completion in electroactive materials, nanomaterials, electrochemical sensor technologies, or a similar area. A publication record in a relevant area is required, along with the ability to collect, analyse, and interpret experimental data. Strong problem-solving, organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills are expected. Experience with carbon-based nanomaterials, redox nanocomposites, protein immobilisation, and electrode modifications for electrochemical sensing is desirable.

To apply, use the Lancaster University online application portal. For informal enquiries, contact Dr Samet Şahin at [email protected]. Closing date: Sunday 11 October 2026.
