About this position
Prof. Mohamed Hamouda’s Integrated Water Cycle Lab at United Arab Emirates University is inviting applications for a Research Associate position in Remote Sensing of Water Quality. This is an early-career research opportunity starting September 2026.
The project sits at the intersection of Environmental Science, Earth Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Statistics. The successful candidate will work on processing and analyzing multi-sensor satellite data such as MODIS, Sentinel, Landsat, and PRISMA, integrating remote sensing with in-situ datasets, and developing machine learning and physics-informed models. The role also includes model validation, visualization, early warning tool development, technical reporting, journal publications, project documentation, and coordination with research partners and field campaigns.
Minimum requirements include a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Remote Sensing, Data Science, or a related field, with PhD preferred. Applicants should have 1–3 years of research or industry experience in a relevant area, experience with remote sensing data processing and GIS, strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or R, and experience with machine learning and data analysis. Strong technical writing and communication skills are also required.
Preferred experience includes water quality modeling, oceanographic data, deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, physics-informed machine learning, environmental modeling, and work in arid or coastal environments, especially the UAE/Gulf region.
To apply, prepare a detailed CV, a cover letter describing your research experience, academic transcripts, and contact details for at least two referees. The closing date is 2026-07-01.
