About this position

Research Fellow in Advanced Semiconductor Device Modelling at the University of Surrey (Guildford, United Kingdom).

This is a full-time, fixed-term research position on EPSRC project EP/Y000196/1, focused on advanced semiconductor device modelling for source-gated transistors (SGTs) and multimodal transistors (MMTs).

The successful candidate will develop and validate predictive models using methods such as high-fidelity TCAD, compact modelling, surrogate modelling, and physics-informed machine learning. The role is computational but involves close collaboration with experimental researchers and use of measured device data to ensure physically meaningful models.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Semiconductor Device Physics, computational or numerical modelling, or a closely related discipline. Strong expertise in at least one modelling approach is required, along with the ability to critically interpret results and work across modelling and experiment.

The post includes research outputs, publications, reusable models, simulation frameworks, conference presentations, mentoring opportunities, and possible national/international travel for collaboration and dissemination.

Funding and terms: salaried research fellow post, £38,448–£46,970 per annum, fixed term until July 2027.

How to apply: submit a CV and cover letter via the University of Surrey vacancy portal. Direct enquiries to Dr Radu Sporea at [email protected].

Deadline: Monday 02 November 2026, 23:59 GMT.

What's required

A PhD in Electronic Engineering, Semiconductor Device Physics, computational or numerical modelling, or a closely related discipline is required. Applicants should have demonstrable expertise in at least one of high-fidelity TCAD, compact modelling, or advanced numerical/AI-assisted modelling of semiconductor devices, supported by publicly verifiable technical outputs. The postholder must be able to exercise academic judgement, select and develop appropriate modelling approaches, critically interpret results, and work closely with experimental data.

How to apply
