About this position

The University of Warwick’s Institute for Employment Research (IER) is recruiting a Research Fellow in employment and labour markets. This is a full-time, indefinite post based at Warwick in Coventry, UK, with a salary range of £35,608–£46,049 per annum. The role is designed for a labour economist or other social scientist with strong quantitative skills who wants to contribute to rigorous, policy-relevant research.

The successful candidate will work on topics such as skills and training, labour market transitions, labour supply and demand, wages, health and job quality, and the evaluation of employment and labour market policies. The post involves designing and delivering externally funded research, analysing large-scale survey, administrative, and/or linked datasets, and producing academic as well as policy-facing outputs.

Applicants should have or be close to completing a PhD in labour economics or a relevant social science discipline. Strong applied quantitative research skills are essential, especially econometrics and statistics, along with experience analysing labour market data. Experience with large-scale survey, administrative, or linked datasets is particularly welcome. The institute also values candidates who can demonstrate a substantive research agenda in employment or labour markets, not only methodological expertise.

IER is a multidisciplinary research institute within Warwick’s Faculty of Social Sciences and has a strong record of research income generation, impact, and collaboration with government departments, public bodies, charities, foundations, and international partners. The post offers the chance to develop your own research area while contributing to a wider programme of policy-relevant employment research. Pending successful probation, the role is tenure track.

To apply, submit the online application form with a CV and cover letter by 1 November 2026. Informal queries may be directed to Professor Chris Warhurst or Professor Trine Larsen by email.
