About this position

Research Fellow in Glycoproteomics and Cytokine Structure Biology at Griffith University (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia).

This is a three-year, fixed-term, full-time research position in the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, working on an interdisciplinary project about how protein glycosylation regulates cytokine signalling during erythropoiesis and how these insights can improve the ex vivo production of red blood cells.

The project is supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council Ideas Grant titled Manufacturing Red Blood Cells: The Critical Role of Glycosylation in Cytokine Signalling. It is a collaborative effort between Griffith University and Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, bringing together expertise in glycomics, glycoproteomics, proteomics, structural biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, haematology, and red blood cell physiology.

The successful candidate will design and analyse experiments using biochemical, glycomic, glycoproteomic, structural, and cell-biological approaches; work with ex vivo erythroid culture systems; validate protocols; manage data; publish papers; present findings; and contribute to student supervision, reporting, ethics, biosafety, and grant development.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline and have strong research experience in at least one core area of the project. Experience with mass-spectrometry-based proteomics, recombinant protein work, structural/biophysical analysis, cytokine biology, mammalian or primary human cell culture, ex vivo erythropoiesis, or blood rheology is especially relevant. The role values independent research ability, collaboration, quantitative analysis, reproducibility, and strong communication skills.
