About this position
Research Fellow opportunity in Indigenous urban health at The University of Queensland, based at the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health in Toowong, Brisbane, Australia. This is a full-time, fixed-term academic research role for up to 3 years at Academic Level B.
The position sits within a landmark ARC Laureate Program exploring the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in Australian cities. The successful candidate will work with Professor James Ward and the team, contributing to a collaborative, community-led research environment focused on meaningful change for First Nations communities.
Research themes include cultural identity, visibility, pride, and belonging; access to services and opportunities for economic participation and empowerment; Indigenous knowledges in urban planning and sustainability; and culturally appropriate data systems and infrastructure. The role also involves research translation, policy influence, practical impact, funding applications, and supervision/development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, with evidence required. A PhD in a relevant discipline is essential, along with knowledge or experience in Indigenous research methodologies and/or substantial experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. A developing research profile, experience with research funding applications, and supervision experience are also expected.

What's required
