About this position

University of Malta is inviting applications for a Full-Time Research Support Officer II funded by the Research Cluster INSIGHTS (Intelligence and Security Research Cluster) in the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.

This opportunity combines research support work with a requirement to enrol in a full-time PhD at the University of Malta within the first six months of employment. The post is closely tied to INSIGHTS’ interdisciplinary agenda in intelligence and security studies, with projects spanning both human-centric security and technological innovation & cybersecurity.

Research themes include social change, migration and racism, trafficking, gender-based violence, climate change, media and communications, forensic linguistics, security technologies, cybercrime, OSINT, digital investigations, and the intersection of technology with human rights. The cluster also places emphasis on disinformation, hybrid warfare, organised crime, and broader security challenges affecting individuals, organisations, and states.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a discipline related to the humanities or a related area aligned with the cluster. Excellent spoken and written English is required, and familiarity with the local Maltese context and institutions will be considered an advantage. Candidates must be living in Malta for the duration of employment.

Role and duties: the selected candidate will provide research and administrative support, including minute-taking, organising meetings and events, helping with outreach and conferences, maintaining the cluster website, supporting grant applications, and contributing to reports and scientific writing.

Funding and duration: the post is funded, with initial remuneration of €30,327 per annum (inclusive of cost-of-living adjustments). The appointment is initially for 12 months and may be extended up to 36 months, subject to funding availability.
