About this position

Babes-Bolyai University is recruiting a postdoctoral scientific researcher for a position within the project “Mental health in a rapidly changing society: A multi-level approach, from genes and molecules to neural networks and psychosocial systems” (PN-IV-P6-6.1-CoEx-2024-0139).

The role is based in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and is a full-time, temporary research appointment. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment connecting psychological sciences and neurosciences, with a strong emphasis on human neuroimaging and mental health research.

The position is especially suited to researchers with experience in fMRI and broader MRI-based approaches. The project calls for demonstrable expertise in experimental design for fMRI studies, including the development of paradigms for investigating cognitive, affective, or social processes. Candidates should also have hands-on experience analyzing task-based and resting-state fMRI data, including preprocessing, GLM modeling, BOLD contrast analysis, and functional or brain network analysis.

Additional strengths include experience with structural MRI methods such as voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and/or diffusion imaging (DTI), familiarity with common analysis platforms such as SPM, FSL, AFNI, CONN, Nilearn, or fMRIPrep, and experience with MRI data acquired on 3T systems. The advertisement also specifies that applicants should have at least four scientific publications in internationally indexed journals related to functional MRI design, analysis, or interpretation.

Eligibility requires a PhD in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a related neuroscience field, awarded no more than eight years before registration for the competition. The position requires very good English; knowledge of Romanian is an advantage.

Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] before 21 August 2026 at 16:00 (Europe/Bucharest). The posting also provides an additional contact address, [email protected], for further information, and includes linked Romanian and English announcement documents with full selection details.
