About this position
George Washington University and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are seeking a Senior Research Fellow (or Faculty Member) to help modernize the NIST Community Resilience Guides in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with hybrid potential.
This opportunity is centered on urban planning, civil/structural engineering, systems engineering, community resilience, climate adaptation, and disaster policy. The selected candidate will lead a two-phase technical overhaul of the NIST Community Resilience Planning Guide and Playbook, including a new chapter connecting urban design with structural community resilience and an audit of how cities use predictive models, planning frameworks, and data tools to address future natural hazards.
The role is especially suited to a senior specialist with experience working with municipal officials, community engagement, multi-hazard decision-making, and modeling future environmental stressors. Strong peer-reviewed publication record and the ability to translate technical risk concepts for non-technical audiences are emphasized.
Applicants are asked to submit a 1–2 page Statement of Interest highlighting municipal/resilience capabilities along with a CV. The post does not mention a deadline or funding package.
Announcer: David Broniatowski, Professor of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at George Washington University.
