About this position

Osaka University’s Research Institute for Microbial Diseases (Department of Molecular Bacteriology) is recruiting a Specially Appointed Researcher (full-time, fixed-term) for research in bacteriology and related life sciences.

The project focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of pathogenicity in enteropathogenic bacteria such as Vibrio species and pathogenic Escherichia coli. Research themes include epidemiological surveys, molecular biological analyses, identification and functional analysis of virulence factors, and gene expression mechanisms that regulate pathogenicity.

Current work in the lab includes infection establishment and pathogenesis studies using mouse infection models, analysis of pathogen-host interactions using human intestinal organoids and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), and investigation of pathogen-environment interactions through phage resistance mechanisms. The group is also developing new infection models and analytical techniques, with downstream applications in antimicrobial therapies, vaccines, and infection control.

This is a postdoc-equivalent research position located at Osaka University in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The appointment is fixed-term until 2027-03-31, with possible renewal depending on performance and project continuation. Salary starts at 3 million yen per year.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree (or equivalent ability/achievements), relevant research experience, and Japanese or English proficiency sufficient for the duties. Research experience abroad is welcomed. Applications are accepted from 2026-09-28 to 2026-11-15.

Apply by email with the required documents (resume and list of achievements) to [email protected]. Online interviews are available for applicants living overseas or in distant locations.
