About this position

TU Wien is advertising a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering for the field of Digital Fabrication of Structures and Systems. The position is embedded in the newly established Center for Digital Fabrication of Structures and Systems and is closely linked to research on digital fabrication in construction, structural engineering, additive manufacturing, human-robot collaboration, and resource-efficient and circular construction systems.

The role combines research, teaching, and scientific/organizational leadership. The successful candidate is expected to build an internationally visible research profile, develop an integrated approach connecting design, structural engineering, and automated fabrication, and contribute to the strategic development of the center. TU Wien is also establishing new laboratory infrastructure with advanced industrial robotics to support this research direction.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field, have a strong structural engineering background, and show research experience at the interface of digital design and automated fabrication. Teaching and supervision experience are required, along with the ability to develop internationally recognized research and collaborate across disciplines. Experience with industry partners, research project leadership, and willingness to acquire third-party funding are valued. If German is not yet sufficient, the candidate is expected to learn it soon for teaching, center management, and committee work.

Appointment details: the position starts as a University Assistant/PostDoc with tenure-track progression. It is initially limited to six years, with a positive evaluation opening the path to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract. The expected start is October 2026. The application deadline is 11 June 2026.

How to apply: submit the application in English via the TU Wien portal. Required documents include a CV, motivation letter, description of research achievements, teaching and mentoring experience, a concept for future research and teaching, publication list, copies of doctoral and diploma certificates, and documentation of third-party funded projects.

Announcer: the post is shared by A. Aziz Al-Ayoubi, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, with a LinkedIn profile provided in the post.
