About this position

TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is an opportunity for early-career researchers from developing countries to pursue PhD research in India at CSIR laboratories and institutes.

The programme is jointly offered by TWAS and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. It supports research in a wide range of science and technology fields, including agricultural sciences, biology, medical and health sciences, chemical sciences, engineering sciences, astronomy/space/earth sciences, mathematical sciences, and physics.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must be nationals of a developing country (excluding India), be 35 years old or younger as of 31 December 2026, hold a Master's degree in science and technology, and be regularly employed with a research assignment in their home country. Applicants must not hold residency in India or any developed country. English proficiency evidence is required if prior education was not in English.

Fellowship types: sandwich fellowships for students already registered for a PhD in their home country, and full-time fellowships for those who will register in India. The fellowship can be tenable for up to 4 years, with a monthly stipend for living costs, food, and health insurance, plus subsidized accommodation.

Application process: applications are submitted online through TWAS. Applicants should secure preliminary acceptance from a CSIR host institution and submit the acceptance letter by the deadline. Sandwich applicants also need a signed Registration and No Objection Certificate from the home university.

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
