About this position
The University of Cagliari is inviting applications for two one-year research fellowships (borse di ricerca) within the interdisciplinary Aesthetics of Knowledge project. The positions are based at the Università degli Studi di Cagliari in Italy and are full-time, temporary research fellowships at postdoctoral level. The project brings together scholars working across philosophy, aesthetics, ethics, literature, political thought, music, cultural studies, history, and related humanities and social-science fields.
The project explores the aesthetic dimensions of our search for knowledge. Its agenda has three main strands: the relation between aesthetic and epistemic considerations in philosophy, including contemporary analytic philosophy, the global reception of Daoist texts, and the literary forms of the French Enlightenment; the aesthetics of high-fidelity recording technology and how it reshapes ideas of truth and authenticity in musical performance; and the role of aesthetic considerations in political and philosophical propaganda, including historical examples such as Nazi and Bolshevik propaganda as well as Enlightenment persuasive strategies. The fellowships also invite reflection on the ethical consequences of these aesthetic-epistemic interactions and possible ways to address them.
Applicants from any discipline are welcome, provided their research fits the project themes and objectives. A PhD in a humanities or social science discipline, including psychology, is highly desirable. The working language of the project is English, and candidates of any nationality and native language are encouraged to apply. The application process requires several forms and supporting documents, including a CV, publication list, a representative publication, and identity documentation. Official forms and instructions are provided in Italian, but applicants who are not fluent in Italian are encouraged to contact the project team for help with the application.
Applications must be submitted by 27 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview. For the official call and application forms, see the project website and the University of Cagliari call reference “Borsa di ricerca n. 16/2026.”
