University Assistant (Post-Doc) in Functional Aromatic Molecules TU Wien in Austria

TU Wien is advertising a University Assistant (Post-Doc) position within the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry, specifically in the Laboratory for Functional Aromatic Molecules. The appointment is a full-time, temporary parental leave cover post, expected to start in October 2026 and last for about 7 months or until the end of the leave period.

The research focus is highly relevant for candidates working in organic synthesis, polymer science, and materials chemistry. The post involves research on the synthesis, characterization, and application of conjugated organic materials, especially conjugated polymers and conjugated macrocycles. The role also includes participation in research project acquisition and administration, publication writing, invention disclosures, research data curation according to FAIR principles, supervision of students, development of course material, teaching support, examination assistance, and organization of scientific and administrative activities.

Applicants should hold a doctorate by the start date, have a record of international journal publications, and demonstrate excellent English (C1). Strong practical experience in the synthesis, characterization, and use of conjugated organic materials is required, along with teaching experience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Desirable experience includes polymers, electronic devices, research cooperation, project management, and co-supervision of students; research experience outside Austria is also valued.

The position is based at TU Wien in Vienna, Austria, with access to state-of-the-art facilities for organic/polymer synthesis, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and advanced characterization and application labs. The institute highlights an interdisciplinary environment bridging synthetic chemistry, physical organic chemistry, materials chemistry, and device applications. The salary is set by the Austrian collective agreement for university staff, pay grade B1, with a minimum gross salary of EUR 5,014.30/month paid 14 times per year for 40 hours/week, and relevant prior experience may increase pay.
