About this position

Up to five postdoctoral positions are available in the Cluster of Excellence “Transforming Human Rights” at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), Germany.

The Cluster focuses on the potential and limits of human rights in the context of major global transformation processes. Successful candidates will conduct independent and collaborative research on the transformation of human rights, norms, institutions, and/or practices, preferably linked to at least one of the five megatrends. Projects that bridge two megatrends are especially welcome.

This is a strong opportunity for researchers in human rights, law, political science, philosophy, anthropology, human geography, history, management studies, or computer science. The postdoc program offers an individual advisory committee, academic mentoring, tailored skills development, a personal research budget, and support for visits to international partner institutions or human rights organizations.

Eligibility highlights: completed PhD/doctorate (thesis submitted by the start date), PhD awarded no more than 3 years before the contract start, strong human rights research profile, initial publication experience, and fluency in English. Additional languages are an asset.

Funding and employment: paid full-time postdoctoral employment under TV-L E 13, temporary until 2029-12-31, with salary progression according to public service rules and additional benefits. The role is based at FAU in Nuremberg, Germany.

Application deadline: 2026-08-25. Apply online only and upload a cover letter, CV, publication list, certificates, and a five-page project proposal. Interviews are planned for early October 2026.

Contact for questions: Dr. Maria Jose Luque ([email protected]).
