Postdoctoral Researcher (Adjunct) in Nuclear Reactions and Hadronic Processes – Detector Design and Experimental Physics
The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adjunct) position in the Department of Nuclear Reactions and Hadronic Processes (NZ24), Division of Nuclear Physics and Strong Interactions. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 33 months, focused exclusively on research with no teaching obligations.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on advanced experimental physics projects, including the conceptual design and implementation of a Cosmic-Veto detector for neutron-antineutron oscillation searches at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. Responsibilities include Monte-Carlo simulation development, detector prototype design and testing, integration with detection systems, and data analysis at all stages. The role also involves participation in the early phase of the NNBAR experiment (HIBEAM), dissemination of research results through publications and presentations, and applying for external research funding.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in physical sciences or related fields (chemistry, physical chemistry, material science), with a strong publication record in international journals. Experience in nuclear or particle physics, hands-on work with research equipment, experimental data analysis, teamwork, and excellent English skills are required. Preferred skills include proficiency with experimental physics software (ROOT, MATLAB), programming in C++/Linux, and familiarity with Monte-Carlo simulation packages (GEANT4, FLUKA).
The position offers a competitive monthly gross salary (PLN 7,250 for PhD holders, PLN 8,050 for habilitated doctors), with possible additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support from the Company Social Benefits Fund. The institute provides state-of-the-art research facilities, including computer farms, cloud computing infrastructure, and access to world-class experts. Annual leave of 36 days is included.
To apply, candidates must email their application and attachments (preferably as a single PDF, .zip, or .rar file) to [email protected] by May 4th, 2026, with the subject 'Adiunkt/post-doc/AP-I-NZ24-2/26'. Early contact with Prof. Adam Kozela ([email protected]), head of NZ24, is required and may involve delivering a seminar prior to application. Referees should send recommendations directly to [email protected] by the deadline. Interviews will be held June 9–11, 2026, and the competition will conclude by June 22, 2026.
