We are recruiting a fully funded 18-month postdoctoral researcher at the LIRMM , University of Montpellier , France, for a project on Modeling and Optimal Path Planning of an Automated Kite-Based Ship Propulsion System . The research sits at the intersection of marine robotics , control engineering , optimization , aerodynamics , and mechanical/electrical engineering . The project will study the modeling of a kite-based traction system, including the kite, tethers, and ship, and will develop optimization methods for kite reference trajectories to maximize aerodynamic traction under varying vessel courses and environmental conditions. A further objective is to account for the energy consumption of the kite’s electric winches in order to improve overall propulsion efficiency. This is a strong fit for candidates with experience in dynamic modeling, trajectory planning, optimization, autonomous systems, and energy-efficient propulsion concepts. The position is funded by the BPI KIWIN Project under France 2030 .
