Alexander Dobeson

Student-driven PhD course at Copenhagen Business School on Theories of Social Property Relations, Space and Power (4 ECTS). The course is designed for PhD students interested in critical geography , social property relations , global capitalist restructuring , spatial divisions of labour , gender relations , labour movements, ownership, power, and resistance. The course is coordinated by Alexander Dobeson , Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Society and Communication at CBS. It draws on classic and contemporary scholarship including Doreen Massey’s Land and Capital and Spatial Divisions of Labour , as well as Beverly Silver’s Forces of Labour . The programme emphasizes how capitalism is shaped by property relations, spatiality, uneven development, coloniality, and labour struggles, and it invites students to connect these theories directly to their own PhD projects. Participants are expected to submit a short reflection essay (max 5 pages) in English, positioning their PhD project in relation to the course literature, and to give an oral presentation on their project. The course is explicitly student-driven and includes discussion of individual projects, writing sessions, and methodological reflection. Deadline: 31 July 2026 for registration. The course notes that if there are too many registrations, seats will be allocated after the deadline; if seats remain, the deadline may be extended. Once accepted, registration becomes binding and no refunds are issued. Funding: No scholarship or stipend is mentioned.
