Koç University in Istanbul is recruiting for two postdoctoral positions on the ERC Advanced Grant project EMERGEPOL , a five-year comparative study of how new political issues such as migration, identity, climate, and multiculturalism emerge and either harden into lasting affective polarization or fade away. The project traces this process from elite discourse through media framing to mass opinion in Türkiye, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Hungary . The positions are well suited to researchers in Political Science , Comparative Political Behaviour , Survey Methods , Computational Social Science , Statistics , Machine Learning , and Natural Language Processing . Position 1 focuses on comparative political behaviour and survey methods, including three-wave panel designs, embedded experiments, Dynamic Bayesian Networks, and affective polarization measurement across four languages. Position 2 focuses on computational social science, including multilingual NLP and ML on elite and media text, and development of the project’s Polarization Potential Index. Working knowledge of Turkish, Hungarian, or Dutch is an advantage, but not required. Both positions are three-year contracts , renewable for a further two years, with full project funding for fieldwork, computation, and conference travel. The application deadline is 1 November 2026 .
