Fully Funded PhD in Biomechanics and Muscle-Tendon Mechanics at the University of Verona

Fully funded PhD opportunity at the University of Verona , Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement Sciences, in the area of biomechanics , muscle-tendon mechanics , ageing , and sarcopenia . The project is titled “Alterations in muscle-tendon biomechanics induced by ageing and sarcopenia: implications for functional decline and potential intervention strategies” . It aims to characterise biomechanical alterations of the muscle-tendon unit associated with ageing and sarcopenia, understand how these changes contribute to reduced functional capacity during contraction and locomotion, and explore telemedicine-based training protocols to assess adaptive capacity in sarcopenic patients. This PhD is described as fully funded for 3 years . The post highlights access to well-equipped laboratories, including VICON motion capture, force plates, wireless EMG, accelerometers, load cells, TMS, metabolimeter, isokinetic dynamometers, and ultrasound, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold an MSc degree in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, sport and exercise sciences, or a related field; a European passport is required; strong MATLAB/data analysis skills are desirable; good English speaking and writing skills are required. Italian is explicitly not mandatory. How to apply: send a single PDF containing your CV, cover letter, and at least one referee contact to [email protected] . Informal enquiries can also be directed to Andrea Monte. Deadline: 1 August 2026. Expected start: October 2026.
