University of Klagenfurt is advertising a PhD / predoctoral position in Science and Technology Studies (STS) at the Department of Society, Knowledge and Politics , Faculty of Social Sciences. The project is framed around independent doctoral research in STS, with possible focus areas including sustainability and social-ecological justice , science as culture and practice , knowledge and democracy , and infrastructures . The role also includes independent teaching at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, publishing academic articles, conference presentations, and departmental service. This is a 75% (30 hours/week) university assistant predoctoral appointment for 4 years . The advertised minimum salary is €39,648 gross per year , with a starting salary of €2,832 gross paid 14 times per year, subject to recognition of relevant prior experience under the collective agreement. Eligibility highlights include a completed Master’s or Diploma degree in a social science subject such as STS, sociology, or political science , strong knowledge of social science methods and theory, and very good English. Experience in qualitative methods, teaching, research projects, and event organisation is an advantage. German is not mandatory, but the candidate should be willing to learn German within 2 years.
