Postdoc in Environmental DNA and Mosquito Mapping in Denmark
University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for a
2-year Postdoc position
in
environmental DNA (eDNA)
,
mosquito mapping
, and
citizen science / participatory science
in Denmark.
The post is based at the
Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and is part of the research group
PARAENVI (Parasites, Vectors and the Environment)
. The project investigates how land-use change and Denmark’s green transition may affect mosquito populations and vector-borne disease risk. The work combines eDNA metabarcoding of water samples, field sampling across landscape types, traditional mosquito trapping, and molecular species identification.
This is an interdisciplinary project funded by a
UCPH Convergence Grant
. The postdoc will work closely with a second postdoc from the social sciences, as well as project partners at the
Natural History Museum of Denmark
and the
Department of Food and Resource Economics
.
Research interests / keywords:
eDNA, metabarcoding, mosquito ecology, vector ecology, disease ecology, biodiversity monitoring, bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, citizen science, environmental science.
Eligibility highlights:
applicants must hold a PhD degree (or have submitted the thesis for assessment before the deadline). The ideal profile includes experience with DNA laboratory work, eDNA/metabarcoding, bioinformatics, statistical analysis of sequencing data, field work, and a driver’s license. Knowledge of mosquitoes, vector ecology, public engagement, and Danish language skills are preferred.
Funding and terms:
the position is fixed-term for 2 years and is funded by the UCPH Convergence Grant. Salary follows Danish academic agreements; a salary supplement may be negotiated.
