Nottingham Trent University / Nottingham Business School is advertising a fully funded PhD opportunity focused on renewable energy , sustainability , circular economy , community energy , and data-driven decision making . The project, titled “Second Wind: Developing Multi-Disciplinary Decision-Support Tools for Adopting Second-Hand Wind Turbines in UK Community Energy Projects” , will investigate how reconditioned wind turbines can support UK community energy initiatives and contribute to net-zero goals. The research uses the Hockerton community wind turbine as a case study and examines the technical, economic, environmental, and social implications of adopting second-hand turbines. The successful PhD candidate will work on developing innovative decision-support tools and may apply methods such as life-cycle analysis (LCA) , systems thinking , statistical analysis , and sustainability assessment . The project is interdisciplinary and involves Nottingham Business School, NTU’s School of Science and Technology, and industry partners in community energy. Applicants with backgrounds in renewable energy , engineering , environmental science , operational research , business analytics , sustainability , or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
