Doctoral and Postdoctoral Positions in Bio-Based Fibre Composites & Reclaimed Timber at BOKU University Vienna
The BOKU University Vienna is recruiting doctoral and postdoctoral researchers for positions in the Sustainable Building Architecture research group at the Institut für Hochbau, Holzbau und kreislaufgerechtes Bauen (IHB). The focus is on bio-based fibre composites and reclaimed timber, with research spanning the conception, development, and evaluation of climate-responsive building envelope systems. The positions integrate adaptive design strategies, bio-based materials, and environmental performance, offering a unique interdisciplinary environment at the interface of architecture, civil engineering, and materials science.
Applicants should have a degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master’s for doctoral, PhD for postdoctoral). Desired qualifications include a strong interest in structural systems, bio-based materials, and circular construction, with experience in timber construction, fibre-reinforced composites, structural design, or material systems considered advantageous. Computational design, structural simulation, and robotic/digital fabrication skills are also valued. Language requirements differ: doctoral applicants need a very good command of English (German beneficial), postdoctoral applicants require proficiency in both English and German.
The positions are fully funded, providing access to research infrastructure and fabrication facilities, and opportunities for involvement in teaching, publications, and supervision of student work. Doctoral researchers may pursue a doctoral degree within an international and interdisciplinary research environment.
Applications should be submitted as a single PDF (CV, motivation letter, portfolio up to 10 pages). Doctoral applicants reference no. 66, postdoctoral applicants reference no. 65. Email applications to [email protected]. More information is available via the provided links. The application deadline is 22 April 2026.
