PhD Positions in Power Electronics and Motor Drive Systems at University of Texas at Dallas
Multiple PhD positions are available in Power Electronics and Motor Drive Systems within the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at the University of Texas at Dallas, starting in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2026. The research group, led by Professor Bilal Akin, focuses on areas such as power electronics, motor drives, energy conversion systems, control theory, machine learning, and signal processing as applied to electrical engineering challenges.
Applicants with a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, relevant industry experience, and prior work in power electronics and motor drives are prioritized. Additional preferred qualifications include hands-on laboratory experience, PCB design, microcontroller programming, and familiarity with machine learning, control theory, estimation theory, or signal processing in the context of power electronics.
The group has a strong track record of industry collaboration, award-winning research, and successful alumni placements in leading technology companies. Research topics include fault diagnosis and condition monitoring of power electronics components and drive systems, control of electric motors and drives, digital power control and management, and the application of advanced computational methods to energy conversion systems.
Competitive graduate assistantships are available, offering full tuition waivers for qualified students. GRE scores are not required for application, and TOEFL is waived if the applicant's previous education was conducted in English. The program provides a dynamic research environment with opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
