PhD in Global Politics: Sociology of Authoritarian Law in Central Asia at Malmö University

Malmö University is recruiting a doctoral candidate in Global Politics as part of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network project 'SOCIAL – Sociology of Authoritarian Law: Insights from Central Asia.' The program brings together 14 leading universities across Europe and Canada to train 17 doctoral candidates in the sociology of authoritarian law, focusing on administrative legislative reforms and authoritarian legitimation in Central Asia. The doctoral project will examine how legal frameworks, judicial practices, and institutional cultures shape public perceptions of legal responsibility and legitimacy in authoritarian political systems. The position is based at the Faculty of Culture and Society, Department of Global Political Studies, Malmö University, Sweden. The doctoral candidate will benefit from joint supervision, interdisciplinary training, and international networking, including mandatory academic and non-academic secondments abroad and fieldwork in Central Asia. Applicants must have a relevant master's degree, strong research orientation, excellent English skills, and meet Marie Skłodowska-Curie mobility requirements.
