Fully Funded PhD in Indoor Air Quality and Built Environment at National University of Singapore

PhD opportunity at the Department of the Built Environment, National University of Singapore (NUS), with the AERO Lab led by Assistant Professor Bowen Du. The lab is recruiting 1–2 fully funded PhD students to start in January 2027 or September 2027. Research in the AERO Lab focuses on indoor air quality, air pollutants, building ventilation and filtration, environmental sensing, and data-driven identification and control of indoor pollution sources. The post also highlights interdisciplinary links to psychology, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, computer vision, and time series analysis. Ideal applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering, or a closely related field. A master’s degree is strongly preferred, but exceptional candidates with an outstanding bachelor’s degree may also be considered. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or R, excellent English, and a strong research/publishing motivation are emphasized. Prior experience in environmental sensing, indoor air quality, and building systems is especially relevant. Applicants should first contact Dr. Bowen Du by email to express interest. Shortlisted candidates will then submit a formal application through the official NUS Graduate Research Programme portal. Candidates must meet NUS admission and English language proficiency requirements and should follow the official NUS deadlines for the January 2027 and September 2027 intakes. Funding is described as fully funded, with stipend and scholarship details available on the NUS Research Scholarship page.
