PhD Position in Infrastructure Intervention Effectiveness Analysis for Road Safety at ETH Zurich , Chair of Infrastructure Management, within the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG). The project is led by Prof. Dr. Bryan Tyrone Adey and focuses on developing methods to evaluate infrastructure interventions for urban road safety . The research sits at the intersection of civil engineering , urban planning , transport planning , urban analytics , statistics , GIS , and data-driven safety analysis. The broader EU Horizon project uses a human-centred, evidence-based approach to active mobility safety, combining traffic, infrastructure, vehicle, and health data with immersive XR experimentation and explainable AI. The PhD candidate will help structure potential interventions, develop indicators and surrogate safety measures, and validate the framework across four European pilot cities, with a strong focus on Zurich and collaboration with local stakeholders such as Zurich’s Dienstabteilung Verkehr (DAV). Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in spatial planning, urban analytics, transport planning, or a related field; strong statistical and empirical research skills; programming ability; spatial analysis/GIS experience; and professional English plus working German.
