Postdoctoral Researcher in Interiors and Evolution of Sub-Neptunes
ETH Zurich is advertising a
postdoctoral researcher
position in
interiors and long-term evolution of sub-Neptunes
within the
Exoplanet Interiors and Atmospheres group
led by
Prof. Caroline Dorn
. The project sits in the
NCCR Genesis
network, connecting planetary physics, geochemistry, chemistry, and biology across Switzerland.
The research focus is open-ended and student-driven: candidates are invited to propose their own ideas around
planetary interiors
,
atmospheric modelling
,
magma-ocean chemistry
,
miscibility and demixing
,
volatile exchange
, and how deep interior processes shape observable exoplanet atmospheres. The role also connects to
PLATO
and
JWST
programmes and to population-level analysis of observed sub-Neptunes.
Eligibility highlights:
a completed PhD in astrophysics, planetary science, geophysics, physics, or a closely related field by the start date; strong Python programming; comfort with git; experience in planetary interior/structure modelling, thermal evolution, high-pressure equations of state, atmospheric modelling, magma-ocean chemistry, or statistical inference is an advantage. The group also expects thoughtful use of AI-assisted tools in research and coding. Fortran is helpful but not required.
Funding and duration:
the appointment is for
two years
, with a possible
third year extension
subject to NCCR Genesis procedures. ETH Zurich states that it offers an outstanding research environment, competitive salary and benefits, and support for conference travel, computing, and career development.
Location:
Zurich, Switzerland.
How to apply:
submit a single PDF via the online application portal only. Include a CV with publication list and GPA for educational degrees, a publication list, a one-page statement of research interests with your own project ideas, and names/contact details of two or three referees. Questions about the position may be directed to Prof. Dorn at [email protected].
Deadline:
review begins on 15 October and continues until the position is filled.
