The University of Graz is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in the Department of Mathematics and Scientific Computing. The role focuses on independent research and publication in mathematical optimization, with particular emphasis on nonsmooth optimization, stochastic optimization, and optimal control of partial differential equations. The position is embedded in an active research environment and includes participation in interdisciplinary cooperation projects and third-party funded projects, especially the SFB MR-DYNAMO. In addition to research, the appointee will teach courses in applied mathematics, supervise students, and take part in examinations as well as administrative and organizational duties. There is also the possibility to work toward a habilitation or another qualification for a professorship. Eligibility requirements include a doctoral degree in a mathematical field and strong knowledge of one of the key areas named above. Experience with numerical implementation of optimization algorithms is desirable. The university also seeks candidates who can integrate into the department’s research profile, work well in interdisciplinary settings, and communicate effectively. Very good English is required, and German teaching ability is expected after a transition period of two years. Applicants should also be able to work independently and demonstrate teamwork, didactic aptitude, and organizational talent. The appointment is for a temporary period of 6 years, with an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20 for a full-time 40-hour week.
