PhD opening in Theoretical Biophysics / Theoretical Physics at the University of Münster , Germany. The Institute of Theoretical Physics in the Faculty of Physics is seeking a Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, E 13 TV-L, 67% ) for 3 years , starting on 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project focuses on theoretical and computational modelling of multi-layered active materials with application to stratified biological tissue . Research tasks include developing and analysing physical models (cell-based and/or continuum models), running numerical simulations , and studying the emergence and mechanical stability of layered architectures as well as transport properties. The position also involves publishing results, presenting at scientific meetings, and participating in teaching and departmental activities. Eligibility highlights: applicants should have an M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a similar field . A background in soft matter physics, theoretical biophysics, or fluid dynamics is advantageous. Experience with Matlab, Python, COMSOL and other numerical methods is desirable, along with very good written and spoken English and a structured, analytical, collaborative working style.
