Fully funded PhD opportunity in Precision Agriculture, AI, and Machine Vision at Tennessee Technological University. The School of Agriculture at Tennessee Tech is recruiting a PhD student for a USDA-NIFA supported Graduate Research Assistantship. The project begins in Fall 2026 and focuses on advanced phenotyping technologies for corn root systems using artificial intelligence , machine vision , 3D reconstruction , and data analytics . Research themes: corn root phenotyping, image processing, AI-based analysis, 3D reconstruction, precision agriculture, and agricultural sensing. The role is interdisciplinary and may involve field and laboratory experiments, image collection and processing, model development, and collaboration with researchers at Tennessee Tech and UIUC. Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold an M.S. in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Experience with Python and OpenCV is required, and prior work in machine learning, deep learning, camera calibration, photogrammetry, or 3D modeling is preferred.
